Welcome to Initiation Team 3! I am very much looking forward to meeting you all and to a great hockey season! As stated in the email, we will be practicing on Mondays from 4:00 - 5:00pm @ KTPN. We are still waiting to see which day(s) we will be allocated for the weekends, but we are pushing a later time slot (fingers crossed)!
Our first practice is tomorrow, and we will have a short parent meeting afterwards. We will be needing on ice helpers, so if you are interested in coming on the ice and helping out, it is greatly appreciated! On ice helpers need to complete the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) and Respect in Sports for Activity Leaders. Both courses are relatively short online courses and are free of charge. Each courses comes with a certificate upon completion, which needs to be sent to me, so I can forward it along to BC Hockey. If any parents have already completed these, please let me know.
In addition to on ice helpers, we will be looking for assistant coaches, a safety person and a team manager, so if you have any interest in these, please let me know at the parents meeting. Some of these positions require courses from BC Hockey, which is most cases are reimbursed, and can be completed over time. There is a grace period where the league allows volunteers to get their certifications in order, so you pick away at it if time is in short supply. I have all the certifications for the said positions, and am happy to lend a hand to anyone willing to take these on.
For those parents who prefer to enjoy their morning coffee from the stands and cheers our kids on, I would ask that you look at and complete the Respect in Sports for Parents. It is important that both activity leaders and parents understand the principles set out in it. This will help ensure that the right messages are delivered to our young ones and to hopefully keep them involved and having fun in team sports!
See you all at the rink.
Kind Regards,
Coach Tyler
